Question
What do the scholars of Islam say regarding the following matter: can tasmiyyah, i.e.,
الرَّحْمٰن الرَّحِيم, be recited at the start of every unit in salah?
Also, is it wājib to recite tasmiyyah
before the additional sūrah?
It is sunnah to recite
after thanāˈ and taꜤawwudh
in the first unit of salah, and at the start of each subsequent unit prior to
beginning recitation of the Quran. This applies to the imam and the one praying
alone. Likewise, this is also sunnah for the latecomer (masbūq)
when he makes up the units he missed. According to the preferred opinion upon
which fatwā is given, it is recommended (mustaḥabb) to recite tasmiyyah
before starting the sūrah after Sūrat al-Fātiḥah;
it is not wājib or sunnah.
