Question

What do the noble scholars say regarding the following matter: How much should be recited in the Qa’dah Oulah (first sitting) of a Fard prayer consisting of four units (Rak’aat)? Is it only up until ‘عَبْدُہٗ وَ رَسُولُہ’or till the end, including the Durood and Du’a?

In the Qa’dah Oulah (first sitting) of the Fard prayer which consists of three or four units, it is Wajib to only recite the Tashahhud, i.e. fromاَلْتَّحِیَّاتُ لِلّٰہ  till عَبْدُہٗ وَ

It is not permissible to recite more than this, such that, if one was to forgetfully recite up until Sajda e Sahw will become Wajib, and if someone did this intentionally, then it will be Wajib to repeat the prayer.

Note: the ruling mentioned above also applies to the four cycle Sunnah Mu`akkadah prayers and the Witr prayer. However, this is not the case for the four cycle Sunnah Ghayr Mu`akkadah prayers and the Nafl prayers ; in the Qa’dah Oulah (first sitting) of these prayers, after اَلتَّحِیَّات, Durood and Du’a should be recited also.
