Question

What do the noble scholars say regarding the following matter: Is it valid for one to perform the prostration of gratitude without Wudu or without specifying the direction of Qiblah or at the time of Zawaal (when it is  Makrooh to offer Nafl Salah before starting time of Zuhr Salah)? Also, kindly mention the correct method of performing the prostration of gratitude.

Just like purification and facing the Qiblah are conditions for the prayer, so too is the case for the prostration of recitation and the prostration of gratitude. Therefore, without being pure or not facing the Qiblah, the prostration will not be valid. Also, because the  prostration of gratitude is not Wajib, rather, it is performed on a Nafl [voluntary] basis, the times in which the Nafl Salah  is  Makruh, it will also be Makruh to perform this prostration. The method of performing the prostration of gratitude is that upon receiving any blessing or witnessing any joy or upon the removal of any calamity, with the intention of showing gratitude to Allah Almighty, in the state of purification whilst standing and facing the Qiblah, one should utter the Takbeer whilst going down into prostration. Whilst prostrating, one should utter words of glorification (Tasbih) and praise (Hamd) of Allah Almighty (there are no specific words; any words may be used), then one should recite the Takbeer again and get up from the prostration. In short, the method of performing the prostration of gratitude is the same as the prostration of recitation.
