Question

What do the scholars of Islam and Muftis of the blessed Shari’ah guide regarding the matter that a bull has reached his [sacrificial] age but it has not yet grown adult teeth  . What is the Islamic ruling on sacrificing such a bull?

A bull that has reached the age of two years, as per the Islamic (lunar) calendar, and has no defect that invalidates Qurbani sacrifice, its Qurbani sacrifice is permissible without doubt, although its two front adult teeth have not yet come (due to which the animal is generally called having two teeth.) It is because, as per Shari’ah, it is necessary for the sacrificial animal to reach its age. It is not necessary [for the animal] to teethe.

However, remember that growing two front adult teeth is a sign that the animal has reached his age. Because a camel grows adult teeth after the age of five; a cow, etc. grows adult teeth after the age of two; and the goat, etc. grows adult teeth after the age of one year, not before this. Hence, if an animal has not yet grown adult teeth , make sure whether the animal has reached its age or not before you purchase it. In case you have a doubt, do not purchase such an animal for Qurbānī sacrifice, particularly in this day & age, when it is prevalent to sell an animal by telling a lie.
