Question
What do the Scholars of Islam and the Muftis of the Shari’ah
say regarding the ruling on reciting the Holy Qur’an while doing Tawaf?
بِسْمِ اللہِ
الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ
اَلْجَوَابُ بِعَوْنِ الْمَلِکِ
الْوَھَّابِ اَللّٰھُمَّ ھِدَایَۃَ الْحَقِّ وَالصَّوَابِ
It is permissible to recite the Holy Qur'an while looking or without
looking at it during Tawaf, but it is better to engage in Dhikr instead of
reciting the Holy Qur'an during this time. Because it is not proven to recite
the Holy Qur'an during Taw from the Holy Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم and the consecutive practiced method is also to
engage in Dhikr and Du’a while performing Tawaf, the
Jurists have declared this as superior.
It is mentioned in Fatawa Alamgiri:
عندالطواف الذکر افضل من القراءۃ کذافی
السراجیۃ
It is mentioned in Radd al Muhtar:
اقول الحاصل من ھذہ النقول التی ذکرناھاآنفاان
القراءۃ خلاف الاولی ، وان الذکر افضل منھا ماثوراً اَوْ لَاکماھومقتضی
الاطلاق
It is mentioned in Fath Al Qadeer:
لم یثبت عنہ فی الطواف قراءۃ بل
الذکروھوالمتوارث عن السلف والمجمع علیہ فکان اولی
It is mentioned in Manasik Mulla Ali Qari:
(یکون فی طوافہ۔۔۔ ذاکرا)۔۔۔۔ ھوافضل من
قراءۃ القرآن من حیث عملہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم فی
الاطوفۃ الواقعۃ فی حجہ وعمرتہ
وَاللہُ اَعْلَمُ عَزَّوَجَلَّ وَرَسُوْلُہ
اَعْلَم صَلَّی اللّٰہُ تَعَالٰی عَلَیْہِ
وَاٰلِہٖ وَسَلَّم
